It’s proved super helpful and gives me links to point back to if someone asks something I’ve already answered. I also post regular tips and tricks as people as questions to me separately, but post them back into our main design team channel and pin them as bookmarks. We set up a dedicated Slack support channel so I didn’t have to field all the questions our team might have which made a big difference. You’ll need to be comfortable yourself in Figma. Ultimately though, remember that if you manage the transition, you’ll become the go-to support person for it all. Mostly, we made the call to build out our DS fresh from our old symbols, import all files but not reconnect them to the new DS until we worked on that file again, accepted that there’ll be time lost but that we can continue to work in Sketch during the transition period if necessary. I wrote an article about a few quick ways to manage it but I’ll be giving a talk on how we did it this month too if that’s of interest. I just completed a transition with my team of 240 Sketch files and it happened months ahead of the schedule we planned. I’m confident it won’t be as bad as you think. It took me exactly one week of 100% figma to go from 'i don't get it they're the same tool' to 'holy shit this is a game-changer'. Also Figma talks about 'designing together' - this is actually unappealing if you're envisioning two designers both working on the same comp - but in actuality it's 'designing side-by-side'.your comps are together and your iterations / variations are all together in the same place, but you likely just work on your own comp. no Craft Plugins, no Abstract, no anything just the app.įigma has done a poor job of marketing imo - they talk about 'designing inside the browser' which isn't a great experience imo - even if performance is comparable it's just 'icky' having your IDE inside of a browser. General Performance: Figma runs faster. You're probably creating pngs for overlays for performance reasons in Sketch prototypes, correct? In Figma you just duplicate and connect it's soooo easy. Interactive Components: so much more intuitive than Sketch.Auto-Layout et al: game changer and so much better than Sketch's solution.Enterprise teams have version control but it's mostly not needed for smaller teams / products. No more 'where's the file' or anything - it's all in the cloud (like google docs). i was super resistant, but it's so much better in so many ways: I was in the same boat, you gotta trust a stranger on the internet but it's so much better.
